The fourth running of our event confirms we seem to have found a great window. The SE breezes the predominate this time of year were again present, with around 10kts from the south early and swinging during the race. Maybe not a spectacular breeze for downwinding experts, but there were bumps there for the chasing without intimidating those building experience.
Julian Norton-Smith withdrew due to injury and Helen Chorley was in a double meaning neither was able to defend their title. It will be at least another year before we can crown our first back-to-back winner.
For the men’s category, Robert Pomie made the trek up from the Gold Coast well worth his while with the overall win as well as leading home the largest category (Male 55-64yrs Ocean Ski). Robert has been close in previous years - 3rd in 2023, 2nd in 2024 - so it’s a well-deserved win.
The ladies have gone about it differently, with Bronte Van Der Ploeg leading home on her first attempt. Taking out the Junior category bodes well for the future, well done Bronte!
Further down the field there were plenty of other outstanding efforts. Well done to all athletes. We appreciate the support of our event and the wonderful vibe present on the day, it’s a great community to be part of.
Much like last year, Club President George has worked tirelessly to organise the event. Thanks again George!
Buck stepped up once more with the generous loan of the finishing arch and the support IRB.
Lastly, our thanks to Julian for kindly stepping up with his jetski to provide the 2nd support craft.
